Hi, starting to build my 390 for my 64 Galaxie 500, looking for headers.

Spoke to Jegs, all they have are full length Hooker headers for $600.00 OUCH!

Can I just use some Flowtech shorty headers??? Seen them for around $150.00

What would you recommend? I'm going to use a MangaFlow system with 40's.

The 390 will have stock heads, just rebuilt with a little polishing, big carb, Edlebrock Performer RPM CAM & Intake etc...

Thanks Patrick

I've had the Hooker Super Comp headers, they work great but a bit of a pain to install. Two tubes on the passenger side go out the inner fender above the frame through a trimmed out spot, then wrap around and down and go into the collector. On the drivers side the rearmost tube goes between the steering box and the frame, then wraps around and down into the collector.

As far as I know, regular old Flowtech headers won't fit.

You might check out the stuff from FPA, they offer headers as well. Ford Powertrain Applications

Matters: Call FPA and talk to them directly. It looks to me like they would know as much or more than most since they usually build the header originally for a car that is in their shop. They keep the jig and build them as ordered from there on out.
