bubbles in power steering 99 taurus

i had bubbles foaming up and out of my power steering pump so i replaced it with new pump. now i still have bubbles after using a vaccuum pump for 2 days. after using the vaccuum pump i can drive the car half way around the block without noise then the pump starts whining and bubbles start foaming again.

i was told it was possibly the rack and pinion steering allowing air to get into the system on the side of the rack that was not under pressure while turning.

has anyone ever had this problem, if so how did you fix it.

thanks

Brian

My niece has one of those Taurus's and hers was doing that too and even blowing fluid back out of the reservoir at times.

It ended up being something to do with the rack. She had it replaced with a reman. and it's been fine since. Before that, she had the pump and some hoses replaced hoping that would do it but no cigar.

I know it's not much info, but hope it helps some.

Mine did this too after I had engine out. It seems to take forever to get the air out. Would foam up and puke out as soon as it was shut off, then after you got the mess cleaned up and it cooled down it would be low again and sucking air when you started it. I never did the vacuum pump but just kept adding small amounts a few times a day and it came out of it. Have not added any or had any noise for a year now.

mustang42782, the only thing i learned is i don't want to do it again. i did one in a ford fusion last year that was easier than the taurus, after doing these i don't plan on doing another for a long time due to working in a small garage. the only reason i did them is to save money. i did these for my kids that are both in college.

sorry i couldn't be more help.

Thanks

Brian
