351w. I just wondered because a lot of people make a big deal out of the weight difference between the two. I do know that a 302 weighs about 85 lbs less than a 350 chebby

 

I know it's not a complete engine, and has aluminum heads but:

• Dimensions:33.00H x 36.50W x 27.50D

• Displacement: 302ci

Wikipedia says a fully outfitted 289 weighed 506lbs

 

I think a stock carbureted small block weighed 425-450 dry.

 

A 302 and 351W differ only in the deck height, I believe...

So that put's them within 15 lbs of eachother by my estimate...

 

thats exactly what I have been thinking FE. I have a feeling it cant be that much especially when the swap would be in a truck.

 

engine weights

• 289-302 = 460 #
• late model 5.0 = 450#
• 351w = 510-525#

gain 50-65# with a 351w swap from a 302

 

Hmmmm... That's weird...

I just spoke to my machinist and he said it's right on the money...

The majorty of the weight comes from the bigger heavier crank and rods with probably 10 lbs in deck height added and the longer skirts on the pistons and the larger intake manifold... It could easily make up #50- #60

 

351W crank is WAY bigger than a 302 crank. And the block is more that 15 lbs heavier too. 518 lbs for the motor assy, 351C 527 lbs
