I finally got my junkyard 5.0 and I'm trying to break it down to take to the machine shop. Does anybody have any hints on taking the upper intake off? I tried wedging a crow bar between the valve covers and the left hand side with a slim peice of wood but it doesn't budge. I don't want to wedge a screwdriver on either end(front or back) cause of the soft alum. Need help, thanks alot.

Thanks for all the responses. I got both parts of the manifold off, is it normal to see oil and carbon inside the runners. The engine is off a high milage cougar and I haven't seen anything like that( first fuel injected tear down). What do I use to clean them out and how? Thanks .

Re: upper intake removal- torx screws?

long dead thread...
pulling the upper off my old Mark VII, cant get those torx head screws to budge on the upper intake cover plate...soaking in pb blaster right now, any other suggestions?
maybe carb cleaner, maybe heat, maybe just drill them out...figured its a common problem with the steel screws in the aluminum, hoping someone might have a magic solution :)

Re: upper intake removal- torx screws?

They don't want to budge because they're almost a stretch to yield bolt. The bolt is in there nice and snug and you gotta hit it Hard and Fast with HP, not slow with a lot of pressure like torque...

That's why a 3/8" impact of a butterfly 3/8 air wrench are excellent for taking them out.

Get as little as 1/4th of a turn on the head and they'll come out with your finger tips...
