I am in the middle of changing all my brake lines on my 66 mustang due to the original proportioning valve leaking. Now with all new lines, cylinders, hoses, proportioning valve should I use DOT3 or should I go with the DOT 4. I have read that they are compatible.

If DOT 4 is easily available in your area go with it - it is slightly higher temp than DOT 3 But if DOT 3 is more available then use it.
Unless you drive pretty hard you won't notice the difference.

Bull$#!t, I have used DOT 5 in my 68 for over 5 years, as have many others.
Athough you are correct about its incompatability with DOT 3 & 4.

Whoa - easy! Time out! You're all 'right'. The difference is DOT 5 and DOT 5.1 - way different. However, if your easy choice is 3 or 4, then 4 as it's compatible, easy to find, and less hygroscopic (attracts less moisture). True, you won't feel any difference, but you'll have less corrosion over the long term.

This one time use brake fluid is making me giggle my ass off!

What the hell is that all about?

DO your brake LINES get hot when slowing down from a 200 MPH run once every two hours?

Or does the heat soak from a run or two of stopping make the fluid heat up and expand ad lock the caliper?
Whatever happens this sounds really stupid and I cannot fathom the reason. SO please one of you Racers school me in this retarded sounding brake fluid change after each race.

In the case of my cars, the drivers are hitting the gas and brake at the same time, ala left foot braking. The pedal will loose its stiffness noticeably after a weekend of racing. Keeping the pedal stiff is very important when racing a blind course in order to keep the drivers' confidence in the car up. Confidence = faster times; more podiums.

Besides, we get it for free. :D
